Clemens was 10 when he started Cross Country racing with his dad. When he was 14, he changed to 4X Cross and, at 15, to Dirt Jumping. His first important competition was at the age of 12 – his first CC race. His dad had promised to buy him a new bike if he made it into the top 3. He ended up 2nd, and that sealed his future as a great biker on the spot. The new bike was even better, and Clemens started competing regularly – getting his start in BMX riding at “Kranked 3”. His role models – those that got him loving the sport in the first place – are the NWD Riders: the New World Disorder film series… Cult!
Biz rides the Velo VL 7101 pivotal system in a special edition created for the UMF team. “This special saddle is light, comfortable and the pivotal system supports my jumps and turns the best. I look for a saddle with exceptional strength to support the heavy wear I put it to, but one that is light and streamlined, so it doesn’t get in the way of my riding agility.” The The UMF Dirtjump bike is his favorite, because, as he says, “it’s simple, nice to ride and never breaks down.” He makes a ritual of putting on his protective gear before the ride – no broken bones and no ripped ligaments yet, but his hardest injury took him a month to fully recover. After the ride? Cold beer with friends!
He still does some track racing today, but not very often. Having finished his initial training in wood engineering, Biz is going on to study construction engineering this September, when the season’s over. Clemens keeps in shape by working out hard at the gym. He’s aiming for more endurance and a greater repertoire of tricks – looking forward to his next goal, the Red Bull District Ride. His advice to young, aspiring riders, aside from watching lots of NWD movies? “Go out, ride a lot and have fun, your riding level will increase very fast. Do what makes you happy, and practice, practice, practice!!”
