German Cross Cup, Fuerth - 8th run;
Stevens Cyclocross Cup, Kiel - 4th run;
Weser-Ems Cup,...

Almost all the Stevens-1A-Crossteam riders of raced last weekend – throughout Germany.
Lisa Müller-Ott and Jannika Scheuch started on the 4th run of the Stevens Cyclocross Cup in Kiel, where Lisa had the opportunity to race on her home turf. Aiming for her third win in a row, but facing a strong opponent in Anne Bertram of the BUR team, it took Lisa the first three laps to shake Bertram off her heels, succeeding finally with her dauntless attack for place during the second half of the race.
Jannika Scheuch fought for rank as well. Taking advantage of Lena Bischoff-Stein’s (also BUR) lack of concentration in a strategic moment. Jannika gained distance at the climax of the race, giving her first place in women’s juniors and giving her a gratifying third place in the total woman’s ranking.
Another win went to 16 year old Johanna Müller, who started at the Weser-Ems Cup in Lohne. With a sheer one-second lead, Johanna took this race in the woman's class ahead of Nicole Walker-Olberding.
Susanne Juranek and Liv-Susanne Bachmann made their way to Fürth to enter the 8th run of the German Cross Cup.
On the short wooded round, mountain-bike qualities proved a definite asset. This a-typical cross course challenged with a long, steep climb and “staircase” passage, with several narrow, single-file trails. Despite their excellent bike control throughout, both riders were at a disadvantage on this unknown, tricky lap. Still, they were able to challenge third position about mid-race, with Susanne Juranek finishing in a comfortable place four and Liv-Susanne Bachmann in place five, ahead of Jessica Lambracht (Berner Bikes Team).

Gesa Brüchmann on position 2 & Johanna Müller third female junior

This Sunday the second run of the German Cross Cyup took place and the Stevens-1A-Crossteam, represented by Gesa Brüchmann, Johanna Müller as well as Liv-Susanne Bachmann, was ready to start again.
In perfect weather (19°C, sunny, almost no wind), the field was almost the same as last week in Bad Salzdetfurth. Beside Susanne Juranek, Sabrina Schweizer was not there: she started at the World Cup in Tabor, CZE.
Johanna, Liv and Gesa were looking forward to the race. The 29-headed starting field and the fast and dusty course, peppered with roots and a lot of washed out and long drawn turns, promised an exciting race with a lot of fun.
Fastest starter and thus the first at the tower was Johanna, closely followed by Gesa at position 2. Just before the double hurdle Johanna had to let the later winner Jessica Lambracht (Team Berner-Bikes.com-Radreisen Mallorca) as well as Gesa and Lisa Heckmann (Team Berner-Bikes.com-Radreisen Mallorca) pass.
Liv had worse cards during the start and found herself in the las third of the field afterwards. But during the first lap she was able to fight her way up to position 11.
Johanna defended her fourth place for a couple of laps, but was entangled into a fall and thrown back at position 6, behind Bettina Lambracht (Team Berner-Bikes.com-Radreisen Mallorca) and Esmee Oosterman (WRV de Peddelaars, NED). There she had to deal with Nicole Walker-Olberding (TuS Blau-Weiß Lohne) and Benita Wesselhoeft (MC Pirate). In the last lap Johanna was able to gain some distance, because of a fall of Nicole Walker-Olberding, but was passed by Jana Süß (Saikl`s - Cross) just before finishing. By that she reached place 7, which is place 3 in the female juniors rating.
Together Gesa, Lisa Heckmann, and Jessica Lambracht extended their distance to the field during the first two laps. In lap 3 Jessica Lambracht came away successfully and finished the race alone, while steadily gain more time to Gesa and Lisa Heckmann.
Lisa Heckmann and Gesa switched positions for the next rounds. In the next-to-last lap Gesa attacked and was able to keep the distance and her 2nd place too the finish line.
Liv had her eye on a 5-headed group after her chase too position 11 and tried to make up for more places. Once the distance shrinked, then grew again. Unfortunately she was to able to draw alongside of them, so that she had to be satisfied with place 11.

1st run of the German Cross Cup in Bad Salzdetfurth

Three times Top 10 at the first run of the German Cross Cup

In Bad Salzdetfurth Gesa Brüchmann was able to underline her good shape with a third place. Johanna Müller finished on position 6 (position 1 of the female juniors), Susanne Juranek reached position 7. The team result was completed by Liv-Susanne Bachmann with a 14. place, who lost some places because of bad luck.
The women had to complete five laps on the new permanent cyclocross course in Bad Salzdetfurth. The riders was offered everything a modern cross course has to be made off: fast passages, climbs, downhills, stairs and hurdles. The ground offered everything from deep sand over mud to gravel, too. A large pit would have been able to cope with the announced mud race as well. Luckily the weather god was merciful and mustered up sun and wind at 10°C.
In the strong manned field of 30 women, Susanne Juranek had bad luck at the start, when her bar locked with Jessica Lambrachts (RSC Hildesheim) bar. So she found herself at the end of the field. Sabrina Schweizer (Rapha Focus), who entered the race as top favorite, was able to break off and ride a the safe victory to the finish line. Gesa too got an optimal start and was second in the terrain, just behind Sabrina Schweizer. In the first rounds she fought with Lisa Heckmann (Team Berner-Bikes.com-Radreisen Mallorca) for the second position. In the third lap Lisa Heckmann was able to gain some distance and was able to keep it until the end. Johanna rode a great race: after the start she was, not unlike Susanne, at the end of the field. In the first mud passage she overtook many women and found herself on position 6 behind Jessica Lambracht. Between the hurdles and the stairs the overtook her as well and position 5 was hers for a long time. Near the end Johanna had to pay tribute to the yet unfamiliar length of the race – Johanna is riding her first races in the womens class – and had Jana Süß (Saikl`s - Cross) pass, who was rolling up the field from behind after a fall in the beginning. It was the same fall that brought Liv out of her rhythm. Afterwards she had falls in the sand passage and in an additional mud passage, caused by other riders and was hurt on her knee. Nonetheless she finished the race. Susanne Juranek fought her way tz the front and was on position 14 in the first round and on position 7 and the end of the race.
The bottom line is: the German Cross Cup experienced a large upgrading this year. The size of the starter field gives hope for a lot of exciting races during the season, which will be continued next week in Lohne (Lower Saxony) with the second run of the German Cross Cup.

Stevens 1A Team starts season at Neerpelt, Belgium and
Rieste, Germany

The new Cyclocross season 2012/2013 has just begun, and Stevens-1A-Crossteam riders took part in races in Belgium and Germany to get a start in the season and collect their first racing kilometers. On Saturday, Liv-Susanne Bachmann and Susanne Juranek entered the international women’s race in Neerpelt/Belgium and competed for the Soudal Grote Prijs. British rider Nikki Harris finished first, with Susanne Juranek placing 12th. After taking a fall and encountering technical problems with her bike, Liv-Susanne Bachmann was not able to finish the race. For Susanne, “The race felt good. I was happy to get the feel of my bike again. I’m still a bit slow, but I’ll step up speed in the next race.”
On Sunday, both riders started at Rieste/Alfsee in Germany. Joining them was the new team rider Johanna Müller (Herford). Although the race in Rieste is only part of smaller racing series in northwestern Germany, some good national series riders participated in this event to “test their wings” for the new season. Jessica Lambracht (RSC Hildesheim) and Jana Suess (Brunswick) also checked their performances. The rather short, 2.5 km course had everything necessary for a cyclocross race: a long sand passage, a paved road with strong head winds, and tricky passages through the woods. The riders needed to be in good shape to finish the race safely.
Liv had a good start and kept her lead in the early laps, until Jessica Lambracht caught up and managed to pass after Liv had fallen in the woods. Liv finished second and Susanne arrived 3rd, with Johanna securing 4th. The weekend was a good practice run for the upcoming national racing series. The first race is on October 14th in Bad Salzdetfurth, preceded by smaller, “warm-up” races in the upcoming week: Brunswick (Oct, 3rd), Surwold (Oct, 6th) and Papenburg (Oct, 7th).

National League Road and German Championship Mountain in Albstadt and 13th Harz Mountainbike Event/2nd Harz MTB Cup Race in Altenau

Liv-Susanne Bachmann starts for Stevens 1A at international women’s race at Albstadt

On the Wednesday before the long weekend, Liv-Susanne Bachmann started with almost 70 other female riders onto the first day of two during the 13th Albstadt Women’s Stage Race. Wintery temperatures with a bit of snow influenced the 30-lap run on the 1 km long, flat-out city circuit. Due to pedal problems and a high pace from the start, Liv began nearly last. Racing midfield as part of a group of five, however, she won the group’s final sprint, despite her bad start.

On Thursday, Liv premiered at the German Mountain Championship, held during the second stage. The circuit was hard: The riders had to master 10 straining laps on a 10.2 km circuit, with the first long steep climb beginning just past the starting line. After a short downhill respite, the second even steeper climb with mountain classification followed, then a brief plateau before the track led back downhill to the finish line. During the first lap, Liv kept the leading group in sight and caught up with them on the downhill. During the second, she had to let them go on the mountain classified climb. She began pursuit with a group of two other riders, passing more cyclists with each round, and finished the race in 10th place. Liv had to hold back for the final sprint, having experienced cramps since the middle of the race, so she was pleased finishing 22nd – giving her an overall result of 25th for both stages.
Liv-Susanne Bachmann celebrates double win at Altenau

After only one day's rest from the road races in Albstadt, Liv competed in the Cyclecross race on Saturday and the MTB Marathon on Sunday in Altenau. Saturday was used to test the legs and Sunday was supposed to be mainly training.
At the CC race, 3 laps had to be completed on a 5 km long course. The track was fairly muddy, made up of one long climb and a partially rough downhill.
Liv was able to distance herself from the other female riders from the start and won with a considerable lead.
On Sunday, Liv went for the 80 km long middle distance. Circling the 40 km round twice. Forest roads interchanged with root-ridden trails which were difficult to ride. Each round had both a mountain and a trail classification, with separate time measurements for each.
Liv paced herself, clearly feeling the efforts of the previous days. She concentrated on cranking with a high frequency without using too much force. The tactic worked well: she had no problems with cramps.
Despite the previous exertions and cautious driving on the down hills, she repeated her start-finish win of Saturday’s – clocking as well as in 2011.

Stevens-1A-Crossteam riders Sandra, Liv & Susanne on slippery paths

While Liv-Susanne Bachmann and Sandra Gockertwere able to collect some racing kilometers on the road and at MTB marathons prior their first CC race this summer, Susanne Juranek was riding her first race of the season in Solingen.Sandra Gockert, last year's overall NRW-Cup winner, is defending her title this year and started into the race with high expectations. For Susanne Juranek, the questions were, “Where do I stand?” and “What training do I have to concentrate on?”
Susanne made a good start and was third on the track after a warm-up lap.
Liv had no luck during the start and gave up additional seconds to the lead on the first downhill stretches, but was able to catch up during the long climb uphill.
Not only on the downhill stretches – with their narrow turns and uneven landings – but also going uphill, full concentration was required to keep from sliding off on the slippery clay ground.
Liv fought her way steadily to the fore and reached fourth by the third lap.
Susanne, still not in top shape for the steep climbs, had to struggle against Kim Hoekman of the Netherlands and newcomers from the up-and-coming category.
Liv fell back one place due to a disagreement regarding the lap count, finishing fifth after 01:03:08 hrs. Susanne rallied against Kim Hoekman and even broke away during the final laps, finishing sixth with a margin of nearly 36 seconds. Sandra Gockert was second to cross the finish line, placing her in the podium for the fifth time this season.
